How do I love God?
After the cornerstone principle of
connectedness, we come to *G* for Loving God.
Jesus’ words in Mark are clear about the
greatest commandment:
And one of the men asked
Him, “What commandment is the foremost of all?”
Jesus answered, “The foremost is ‘The Lord our
God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your
strength’. The second is this, ‘You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no
commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:28-31
Greatest Commandment: Love God with all your
heart, soul, mind and strength.
Not only is this
the greatest commandment, it also tells us how
to love God.
Think about what your heart, soul,
mind and strength represent - each is a separate
and important aspect of how to love.
The key to
loving God is to realize you can have a real
relationship with God. Loving God means
fostering and
growing your connection. It is
important to see your connection to
Energy-Source, or God, as something more than
just an overlap of energy fields. We described
the importance of this connection of energy
earlier because it is real and we must
understand it in this context. We must also
emphasize the intelligent aspect of the
Energy-Source, which leads us to use such terms
such as God and Creator, and this is the basis
for surrendering our will, or ego, to God.
God has intention.
To love God is to surrender to His Intention.
These
intelligent and thoughtful aspects of our
Energy-Source are what bring us to discover His
intent and desire for us. If it were not for the
intelligent and intentional aspects of our
Creator, then I suppose we could just harness
the energy and do with it what we wanted. Life
would be more along the lines of the power and
witchcraft as seen in movies such as Harry
Potter or The Lord of the Rings. But the fact is
that our Creator is not a well of infinite
energy without intent. His intent is for us to
love Him and love others, as expressed in our
cornerstone concept. So we connect to Him by
opening our connection to Him from our side,
letting His energy flow into us. We let go of
our egos and let His energy work for us. This is
only possible because He has intention and
purpose, and will instill the same into your
life. That is why it is critical that you
understand that your connection to Source-Energy
is a relationship. Your connection to the
Infinite Energy source is based on a personal
relationship - one that is dictated by love, and
discovery of His Intent for you.
Staying in Touch.
To fulfill
this, we first need to learn how to stay in
touch with God and not stray. This is a
challenge which must be met with diligence and
discipline. The Israelites got it right with the
Ten Commandments and understood that we should
focus on loving God and loving others. And they
truly loved God.
Consider the song Moses led the
people of Israel to sing after their delivery
from Egypt:
"I will sing to the Lord for He is
highly exalted…The Lord is my strength and song,
and He has become my salvation; This is my God
and I will praise Him”
- Exodus 15
And again,
“…I
pray Thee, if I have found favor in Thy sight,
let me know Thy ways, that I may know Thee” -
Exodus 33
But the Israelites often went astray
over the course of their long history. They
would become distracted or discouraged, often
falling to the practices of other nations and
forget about God and what they had learned. They
would blame Him. This was not only true for the
Israelites, but we have seen this recur time and
again through history, whether we are studying
the history of nations or of religion. The real
question for us is how can we stay on track of
loving God without straying, getting distracted,
losing interest or just being overwhelmed by day
to day life? This is only accomplished through
diligence and abiding in things of God on a
daily basis. You must remain immersed in God in
order to remain connected and live by Intent. In
other words, you must first love God - the *G*
in C*GOD3.
